my story
My life has been filled with the joy of being surrounded by animals, from my first memories there are animals and the feeling of being drawn to them. As I grew I decided that animals were always going to be a huge part of my life and I have spent much time working with and rehoming lots of different species. Mostly horses and cats and I must say that I greatly admire both of them. They are both soft yet powerful and amazingly athletic plus very deep with emotion and thought.
Working with animals became the centre of my whole world so when my life took a scary sudden turn down a medical journey with lots of surgeries and uncertainty, it was the loss of that work that truly broke my heart. For years I slowly physically and mentally recovered and all my animals played a massive part in that recovery.
I learnt how therapeutic they could be when I slowed down and really started to appreciate each and every moment with them. I felt my animals were leading me down a new path. A path of sharing their therapeutic side with other people. Hungry for knowledge I undertook a Diploma in Animal Assisted Therapy and completing that with a Distinction I realised how deep my understanding really was.
Animals truly are therapy. Just being around them causes changes in our bodies that are advantageous to our health. So the act of owning a pet is full of positive outcomes, they can ease our loneliness and lessen our depression, reduce stress and anxiety levels, give a sense of purpose to our daily struggles and even reduce muscle tension as we play and interact with them. Therapeutic? Absolutely!
With an eagerness to help as many animals as possible and a recognition in the power of knowledge I also completed a Diploma in Animal Psychology to further increase my skills and insight.
